In his tenure in the golf industry, Bob has served as the CEO of the Humana Challenge and CareerBuilder Challenge PGA TOUR tournaments (currently The American Express) and Executive Director of Desert Classic Charities, the tournament’s charitable giving affiliate, both based in the Palm Springs, California region.
During his tenure with the PGA TOUR, Marra was credited with more than tripling the net income and charitable donations of the tournaments he managed, while re-inventing the marketing and sales operations of the organization, building much stronger relationships with marquee PGA TOUR players and their agents and key golf industry association leaders. One of his key efforts was to expand the scope of the tournament by successfully promoting it as a treasured community event and entertainment venue beyond the golf competition.
As a co-publisher of The Big Three and Me, the award-winning biography of legendary Hall of Fame golfer Billy Casper, Bob led the successful marketing and sales effort that led to the sale of more than 26,000 copies of the book. He also learned a lot about the history of golf as told directly to him by Mr. Casper through many amazing stories of dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to help others.
In addition to his role as an author covering What’s Right With Golf, in the U.S. golf industry, Marra is the CEO of Marra Market Intelligence – an economic research and publishing company.
As the owner of the firm, Bob oversees the analysis of the Greater Palm Springs regional economy and publishes a variety of newsletters, special reports, and market studies for landowners, developers, banks, entrepreneurs, municipalities, and many other public and privately held businesses in numerous industries.
Bob earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in business administration with concentrations in marketing and finance from the University of Delaware and participated in post-graduate executive management courses in public affairs at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public Affairs.
